My daughter was asked in school, “why is it important to study history and geography?” This was her answer. It is always good to see a child becoming aware of the world around them.

To Know Our History
By Kirsten Tate

Without  Social Studies or the Bible we wouldn’t know that Jesus made history and washed us white as snow. We wouldn’t know that Martin Luther King made a difference in the world, and that people are the same no matter what their color is. We wouldn’t have known about the day that Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier, and was the first African American to play on an all white American team. If it weren’t for all of these things being written down or recorded people would have forgotten the point that everyone is the same no matter what their color is. If it weren’t for them people like you and me wouldn’t be where we are today. Our lives would be much different. That’s why we need a history.

Great essay, Kirsten! We sure will miss getting to see you when you visit your Daddy since we moved to Atlanta. You’ll have to get him to bring you and Gabe up to see us. Keep studying hard and do great in school. Miss you guys!
