The Day After

Yesterday, all around the world, people celebrated Christmas. It’s supposed to be a reminder of the great gift that God gave us and that gift was His only Son, Jesus (Yeshua). Millions of children and adults alike were excited about the gifts they both gave and received but, how many of us stopped to the remember and think about the tremendous price that was paid by God for our very lives?

Almost everyone in the world has heard this scripture:

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

This is a most important verse in the bible. All men are born in sin and therefore have no way of being right with God. No matter how many good deeds you perform, or, how many act of kindness, love, or, whatever. You can never do enough to be seen as righteous in God’s sight. Sin is a problem and we are all in the same boat.

Thankfully for us God loved us enough to do something to solve our problem. As the verse above says, He gave His only Son. The reason? To die. Why die? Because God’s Holiness and character demands justice. He would not be a just God if He did not punish sin. And the punishment for sin is death.

When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. 13 Yes, people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin because there was not yet any law to break. 14 Still, everyone died—from the time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come. 15 But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. 16 And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. 17 For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.

18 Yes, Adam’s one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ’s one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. 19 Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous. (Rom 5:12-19)

The death of Jesus was enough to satisfy the requirement of death for all men. So for all who put their trust in Jesus for His punishment for our sin will be made righteous in God’s sight. He gave His life. God gave His Son. It is the deal of all times for mankind. God was willing to pay a price we could not pay by giving His own life for ours.

Don’t pass this up. Don’t pass up the greatest gift ever given. When judgment day is here there will be no way to be justified if you have not already put your trust in Jesus Christ. Jesus is the reason we are celebrating right now. He deserves all praise and glory. God is the greatest gift giver of all time and eternity.
