Difficulties With Raw Food Diet

by Tony on January 10, 2010

mozzerella_hamI can’t seem to get it together. I can live on raw food but, I have an overwhelming desire to eat cooked foods. And they are much easier to come by. I think the best that I can accomplish for now is to add more raw foods to my diet. I can eat more salads, more fruit, more nuts and, try to cut back on the amounts of cooked foods. I believe the raw food diet is a good one. However, it seems to take more discipline than I have at the moment. That goes for any diet by the way. I love food – all kinds of foods.

I spent 20 years in the Navy and traveled all over the world and, in doing so, I got to eat a myriad of dishes most people have never heard of. Most of my family has never eaten Philipinno food, or African, or authentic Italian. There are lots of beer drinkers in my family, but, I have had beers they have never heard of. I can hardly stand to drink American beers anymore. There are very few. Sam Adams is one. Germans make the best beer in the world in my opinion.

While I lived in Italy I learned to like wine. My favorite red is merlot. Many Italians make there own wine at home to serve with dinner. They also make a liqueur called Lemon-cello. It’s an after dinner drink that is can be quite strong. If you have never been to Italy or, maybe know some Italians and have eaten with them, you haven’t really had Italian food. I have my favorite Italian style restaurants here in the States but not many come close to the real thing. There are a few. I live in Green Cove Springs, Fl. and there is a descent Italian restaurant here called D’Fontana’s. The cook is from Sicily I believe. They have great pizza and an incredible Spaghetti Carbonara.

I lived in New Orleans for 4 years. There is another culture of food that not many have experienced. It’s so fattening will kill you but, OMG, it is delicious! I went to many a Crawfish boils, shrimp boils, shrimp festivals, gumbo festivals and more. There are all kinds of food festivals in New Orleans. Food is a very important part of the culture. They have micro breweries and some very good beers.

As you can see, not only did I grow up eating the standard American diet, I have sampled the standard diets from all over the world. I love food. Eating is one of my most favorite things to do. As much of an advocate as I am for the raw food diet it just doesn’t compare in enjoyment and taste as other diets. Yet I still want to be on it. It’s a new year. I have not given up.

I didn’t say that the food on the raw food diet wasn’t any good. It is good. Many of the dishes I have made or had in restaurants are absolutely delicious. Having such good food though makes me want to have other great foods which unfortunately are cooked.

I appreciate that you’ve shared your preferences here. We indeed have the right to our own choices. I’m into Raw food diet and I tell you at first it’s like I’m punishing myself but now that I get used to it I see no difference with it and the cooked food. Good luck.
