LtoR Me, Nate, Jerome

About 16 years ago I met a kid named Jerome Theriot. He was a saxophone player in the Navy like me. He was and is a great musician. He is also one of the greatest guys I ever met. He was way into music – even more than I was. We hung out a lot. We went to clubs to see different bands play. We also performed together in many of the Navy’s various musical groups at the time (Navy Band New Orleans). Back then all the groups were really good because the people who played were really into what we were doing.

Well, at some point we got around to talking on a deeper level and I shared my faith in Jesus with him. Within days he came back and told me that he’d prayed with another friend of our and received Christ as his personal saviour. Since that time I have watched him grow tremendously. He has grown in knowledge and wisdom.

I guess the point in this post is that God’s word and His Spirit are powerful. When I shared my faith with Jerome or, any one else for that matter, I never felt like I was really making the connection or that they really understood what I was trying to tell them. That doesn’t really matter. Being willing to share and being obedient is all God asks of us. God takes care of the rest.

Many of my friends from the past 20 years have told me they are now believers as a result of my influence in their lives. Some of them I’ve had the opportunity to meet in these latter years and there is definitely a change in the way they are now verses the way I knew them in past years.

Don’t give up. Never tire of doing good.
