Gettin Settled In

Well I have been in South Carolina now for a little over 2 months. However, I only moved into the house I was supposed to begin renting in July, this past weekend. The lady who owned the house was renting to another fella, Tyrone. He had not paid his rent in over 5 years. So he owed nearly $30,000. It took her six months to get him out of the place.

She hired someone to make repairs to the house and thought it would be ready by July 1. It wasn’t. I knew the guy who was doing the work so I helped as much as I could. The house of course was in much worse shape the the owner thought. The floors were severely damaged and had to be replaced in the bathroom and the kitchen. There are still leaks in the roof (we did some temporary fixes). All of the plumbing was shot. The walls had holes in them and the carpet was trashed. None of the interior doors were any good. The sliding glass door had to have been in there since the 70′s, and when we took it out, we found that the floor sill underneath was completely rotted away.

We made all the repairs but it took us from about the middle of June until this past weekend, September 10. I got all my stuff moved in. It wasn’t very much. I need to somehow buy some funiture for the living room. I have had people offer me stuff but I don’t want any used furniture. I haven’t had furniture of my own since I was married so, I want new stuff.

I feel a little lonely because I don’t know that many people yet. But that will come with time. I am going to seem my daughter’s volley ball game this evening. I guess that makes it all worth it. I get to see my kids way more often. That is awesome.
