For the past several months I have gotten hold of the faith message and the importance of confessing God’s word. In every area of my life I need help from the Lord in some way. Many times I feel overwhelmed by what I see in the natural (my circumstances) and what I feel emotionally (troubling thoughts about my circumstances). After hearing some teaching on the subject of faith I have begun to speak or confess the word of God on a more regular basis.
Why do I confess the word of God, and, what do I mean when I say that?
I confess the word of God because I want to be in agreement with what God says about me and my life. I want to increase my faith in God’s word concerning me. For instance there are many times that I don’t feel like one of the son’s of God. There are times that I don’t feel very righteous. There are times I feel that God doesn’t care about me or what I am going through.
However, His word speaks contrarily to every one of these issues. To my emotions and not feeling like one of God’s sons His word says this:
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. (John 1:12-13)
By speaking this aloud (confessing) I agree with God’s word and correct what is going on in my mind and my emotions. To the times when I don’t feel righteous and like I’m unworthy of God’s love His word says this to me:
God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
When I feel like He doesn’t care about me or what I might be going through His word says:
His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. (2 Peter 1:3)
Speaking God’s word daily is the meditation I need to get control of my mind and my emotions. God told Joshua to “not let the book of the law depart from his mouth, to meditate on it day and night, so that he would be careful to obey it.” (paraphrased Joshua 1:8)
This is how I should meditate on God’s word- speaking it out loud day and night. I’m not saying all day long I do this, but, I try to do it 3 times a day, or more. Many times it only happens once or twice a day but I strive to do it as much as possible.
The more I speak what God says the more I have faith and confidence in what I hear. The more I speak His word the better I can remember – it is getting into my heart. The more I speak His word the more I desire to be obedient.
Obedience
Obedience is important because there is a lot of instruction in God’s word that will set us free in many areas of life. God has instructions for our spiritual, emotional, and even financial well being. Unless we are obedient to His word there is no way the help He has provided can be manifested in this life.
Last
Since I have been confessing the word of God there are times that I get a clear view of my circumstance and what I need to do in order to change them for the better.
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)
God’s word is spirit, and speaks to the spirit of man. I am confident that my confession of God’s word affects me on a spiritual level and like seed planted in a garden I will have a spiritual harvest feast fit for a king.
